Sugarfoot Jazz Band Invites New Members

The no-doubt world famous Sugarfoot Jazz Band is an all-star group, with young musicians from Guilford, Madison, Westbrook, Cheshire, Southington, Woodbridge, Ivoryton, Colchester and Marlborough.  The band was first organized in 2006 with the encouragement and sponsorship of the Great CT Traditional Jazz Festival.  Several of the original members were in middle school at that time and are now in their third year of high school; others have joined more recently to replace older members who have graduated and gone away to college.  The band has performed at the Great CT Traditional Jazz Festival in Moodus and Wallingford, the Hot Steamed Jazz Festival in Essex, at the Shoreline Arts Alliance Showcase on the Guilford green, at the Marlborough Arts Center’s Festival of Wreaths,  at Bill’s Seafood in Westbrook, and at numerous churches and charity events.  The band’s third CD, pictured above, was released last summer; a few copies are still available.  For more information about the band and its activities please visit www.greatctjazz.org and click on “Sugarfoot Jazz Band”.

The GCTJF hopes to start a younger version of this band some time in the spring of 2010. Middle-school musicians who can read and play in tune are invited to inquire about joining this new “Tenderfoot” jazz band by sending a message to director, Art Hovey: ahovey2@gmail.com .  All instruments are welcome.
